Have you ever found yourself reminiscing about a beloved old TV show and wondering what the actors are up to now? If you were a fan of “Little House on the Prairie” and followed the adventures of the family in Plum Creek near Walnut Grove, Minnesota, you might be curious to know what the actors are doing these days.
Those fans who were fond of the actress playing Mary Ingalls, beautiful Melissa Sue Anderson, were convinced she would continue being part of their life through the small screens, but she had other plans.
Today, she speaks of her decision to leave Hollywood behind and move to Canada.
The actress began acting by appearing in small roles, but gained fame when she became a main character on “Little House on the Prairie.” She received many nominations for Best Lead Actress in a Drama Series due to her talent, and her fans agreed she was deserving of the recognition.
In 2010, Anderson shared her experience of filming the drama that brought her fame. She mentioned that she was fortunate to have a character to portray, as the book didn’t have much of a character. The author, Laura Ingalls, wrote the books when she was older and focused on the best parts of her life. The characters of Ma and Mary didn’t have a significant presence. The story mainly revolved around Laura, Pa, Jack the dog, and Mr. Edwards. Anderson considered herself lucky that the producers recognized her acting abilities.
After playing Mary Ingalls, she experimented with smaller acting parts. However, in 1990, she tied the knot with TV producer Michael Sloan. In 2002, she relocated to Montreal with her spouse and their two kids, Piper and Griffin.
In 2007, the family became Canadian citizens and with the new life came new commitments, so Anderson decided to let go of the showbiz because she wanted to spend more time with her kids and didn’t want them to feel pressured to pursue acting careers themselves.
During an interview with E-Talk, Anderson revealed that she took a significant break from her career. This decision was primarily made for the sake of her children, allowing them to develop their own identities separate from her influence.
Despite not completely stepping back from acting, Anderson has taken on smaller roles in recent years. Her involvement in the series “Little House on the Prairie” had a profound impact on her life, inspiring her to write a memoir called “The Way I See It: A Look Back at My Life on Little House.”
